Varför katter sover inomhus och hur du väljer rätt bädd
A cat that sleeps 14 hours a day is not lazy. It's doing exactly what its biology expects of it. Where and how a cat chooses to sleep tells you something about how comfortable and secure it feels in its environment. Choosing the right bed is less about aesthetics and more about understanding what your cat is actually looking for.
Öppen kudde eller grottbädd?
Cats that sleep in open, visible spots, on the back of a sofa, on a windowsill, on top of a wardrobe, are usually confident animals that feel secure in their environment. An open cushion or flat bed works well for them. Cats that consistently seek out enclosed spaces, the back of a wardrobe, under a bed, inside a bag, are telling you they want more coverage. A cave bed or hooded design suits them better.
This isn't a fixed preference. A cat that's new to a home will often seek enclosed spaces while it's still settling in, then move to more open spots once it's comfortable. Having both options available during the first few weeks is not a bad idea.
Material och tvättbarhet
Cat beds collect hair, dander, and the occasional muddy paw print. A bed you can't wash easily is a bed that will start to smell within a few weeks. Look for covers that come off with a zip or velcro and can go in the machine at 60 degrees. The 60-degree wash matters because it's the temperature at which dust mites are reliably killed.
Fleece linings hold warmth well and most cats find the texture comfortable. Avoid beds with loose decorative elements, ribbons, buttons, or dangling parts, especially if you have a young cat that chews.
Rätt storlek för din katt
A bed should be large enough for your cat to stretch out fully if it wants to, but not so large that it loses the sense of enclosure. For a cave bed, the interior should allow the cat to turn around comfortably. As a rough guide, measure your cat from nose to base of tail and add about 10 cm. That's the minimum interior length you want.
